Good Manure is Here to Help Small Brands Grow
If you’ve ever run a small farm, rural business, or cottage industry, you know the hustle. You wear every hat, tend every crop, fix what breaks, and somehow still find time to bottle the jam, cut the flowers, or prep the farmstand. What often falls through the cracks? Marketing.
That’s where Good Manure comes in.
It’s a grassroots creative project based in the Shenandoah Valley, offering free and low-cost marketing support for the folks doing the meaningful work of growing, making, and preserving what matters. From business building and startup to brand identity and photography to websites, social content, and long-term strategy, it’s my goal to help small but mighty businesses tell their story and get it in front of the right people.
The name? It’s a nod to the real stuff. Manure is messy, humble, and absolutely essential for growth. I believe good marketing works the same way. You don’t need a slick campaign or a massive budget. You need honesty, creativity, and a willingness to get your hands dirty.
I’m not here to sell you fluff, spin, or snake oil. Just real strategy, real storytelling, and real support. No B.S.
Whether you’re just starting out or trying to grow something beautiful from the ground up, Good Manure is here to help.
I’m Lauren — founder, muck slinger-in-chief, and the one usually behind the lens and the laptop here at Good Manure.
I grew up on a small farm in the Appalachian mountains, surrounded by people who were doing incredible work but rarely had the time, tools, or budget to promote it. After 20+ years working in creative strategy, marketing, writing, and media production for everything from scrappy startups to global brands, I moved back to the Shenandoah Valley in 2024 with my husband and two young daughters.
I started Good Manure to help the kinds of businesses I believe in: the ones run by real people with dirt under their nails and a passion for what they do. I bring a mix of hands-on experience, creative chops, and a deep respect for the value of hard work. This is personal for me and I treat every project like it matters, because it does.
Our Process, Plain and Simple
Good Manure is for the growers, makers, and small business dreamers. It’s for the ones building something real with their own two hands. We partner with small farms, homesteads, family-run operations, rural startups, and local brands who are rooted in their craft and ready to grow.
I keep things intentionally small so I can give each project the time and care it deserves. That means Good Manure only takes on a few clients at a time. This support is either for free, at a low cost, or through a fair trade of goods and services. No strings, no fine print, just a shared investment in helping your business thrive.
If that sounds like a fit, fill out a quick application to tell us what you’re working on. I’ll follow up if it feels like the right season to dig in together.
